The marauder wrestling team recently began their 2012-2013 season and is looking as strong as ever. Although coming off an impressive season, questions surrounded the team about whether they would have the competitors to replace recent alumni Ryan Medina, Tony Pafumi, Frankie Colom, and 145 lb. weight class national and state champion Alexander “Lenny” Richardson. However, many wrestlers are returning including current seniors James Kellner and Andrew Ulloa, juniors Armond Cox and Mike Russo, and sophomores Jordan Fox, Christian Colucci, Ryan Burkert, Sonny Simonetti, and Connor Burkert. Coach Verdi’s crew has been working hard and looks forward to yet another successful season on the mat. Senior James Kellner expresses utmost confidence in his team saying, “We have a young team, but we are still going to be very competitive.” Even without their training facility, which was lost in the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Prep’s wrestling squad has found ways to work hard each day without losing valuable training time. We all look forward to watching our team continue to compete as one of the top teams in the state.
