THUMBS UP- IOS 6

As every iPhone user knows, having a new software update is like Christmas morning all over again. That little red notification appears on your screen, and then the waiting for the software to download… what an unreal feeling. Every time the software gets better, and every time there are new little gadgets and gizmos that we all love to figure out and use. For instance, the panorama camera shot now. It is absolutely awesome. It lets you take pictures of whole rooms, large groups, and pretty much anything else you could think of! However, there is one bad side. Google and Apple broke up apparently, and now Google maps are not on the iPhone. Here in the Petroc newsroom, we are confident that those two have been talking, and that Apple is considering giving Google another chance. The rumor is that Google was seen by Apple flirting with Droid, and Apple decided to take some time off. Don’t worry, Prep, like I said earlier, we are confident that they will get back together. So, way to go Apple! You got a sick new IOS 6 software update, and you stood up to Google for cheating on you! You get our Thumbs Up!

THUMBS DOWN- Social Media and the Debates

These next few weeks are going to decide a lot about what happens in the next 4 years. Yes, it is the presidential election. Now coming with this election, are the presidential and vice presidential debates. During these debates, everyone in America turns to social media sites to voice the opinions and act like they know everything about these candidates. Believe or not, YOU GUYS DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING. Every debate, from around 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm, Twitter and Facebook are swarmed with posts by every Prep student. As the Jesuits ask us to do, let’s take a step back and reflect. When posting about this debate everyone should ask themselves these 3 questions:

1)      Do you actually know what you are talking about? (Have you taken the time to research?)

2)      Is your point a valid statement?

3)      Does anyone really care?

If the answer to each of those questions is “yes”, then go right ahead. Post away on Twitter and Facebook. However, even if one answer is “no”, then just stop. Don’t post it. Just sit down and watch the debate. That’s my thumbs down for the week. See ya next time.
