Let me just start off by saying that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a great movie. Being the Star Wars nerd that I am, I was afraid that the movie would fail to please me; however, it did exactly the opposite. The movie had compelling character development and a strong plot while at the same time it contained a sizable amount of humor that was actually coherent. It was unlike the prequel trilogy where the humor felt contrived and forced. I am specifically referencing Jar Jar Binks.

As you may already know, the movie takes place thirty years after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi. The three main protagonists are Rey, a young scavenger who lives on the desert world of Jakku, Fin, an ex-stormtrooper who no longer feels the desire to serve the First Order, and Poe Dameron, a very skilled resistance pilot. The movie also includes many characters from the past movies such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia. I will not go into much more detail because, if I did, I would spoil a lot of plot points from the movie. The antagonist is Kylo Ren; he is a warrior of the First Order. The First Order contains the remnants of the Galactic Empire who served Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. Ren is on a mission to find Luke Skywalker, as are the three protagonists.

Like every movie, it has some flaws. The flaws are not terribly noticeable, but the movie does not follow the lore of the expanded universe. I highly doubt that the new trilogy will get into a direction leading into the Yuuhan Yong War–a war fought between the New Republic and the Yuuzhong in the comic book lore. The story is great, and it kept me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the movie. If I have to spoil one thing, it is that there is a lightsaber battle. Unlike lightsaber battles in the past, this lightsaber battle is brighter and more practical.

All in all, this is a great movie. In my book, this is arguably one of the best movies of 2015. I highly recommend going to see this movie because it is worth the money, and if you have to wait, it is worth the wait.
