The goal of Prep’s mission drive is to raise money to give back to struggling communities. As the Mission Drive Senior Chair, I have had the privilege of coordinating efforts to support organizations across the globe. Each organization that the Mission Drive supports, strives to support a community that is facing challenges whether it be homelessness, gang violence, or a lack of education. Through our fundraising efforts, we try to support these organizations so that families and individuals can build themselves a future.
The organizations that this year’s Mission Drive support are Cardinal Manning Center (Los Angeles), Homeboy Industries (Los Angeles), Center for Working Families (Quito), Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Bethel), Tundra Women’s Coalition (Bethel), and Kuskokwim Learning Academy (Bethel).
Ms. Eppler’s statement on the work of her office is that “There are two times throughout the year where my office hosts opportunities to give back on a large scale. The first is Walkathon, where funds raised are given to those within the community, helping raise money for our Financial Aid program. The second is our Mission Drive, where the funds go to locations around the country and the world where alumni from Prep have worked and served. I find joy in the fact that the community works together to serve others we may never meet during a time in the liturgical year meant for almsgiving.”
This year the Mission Drive runs from March 6th to April 16th, and throughout this time we will run many different events. The events we will run during the Lenten season include pieing a teacher or faculty member, a Prep thrift store, golden/silver raffle candy bars (with prizes!), dress downs, and more.
Additionally, the challenge team that raises the most money PER STUDENT will receive a week of dress down after the Mission Drive ends. As the Mission Drive occurs, you can see the challenge team ranking on TVs throughout the commons.
The total amount of money that was raised in the 2024 Mission Drive was $13,302.78. This year our goal for the 2025 Mission Drive is $20,000!
